I can't seem to connect to https://trisquel.info without a VPN
I mailed "Contact" for this a few months back since it's more like a personal problem though sadly i didn't get a response. I can't seem to connect to this website (https://trisquel.info/) through my normal connection without a VPN. I don't get why that's the case, i can connect to it from another connection normally but i reckon my current connection is being mislabeled as spamming and banned out where it refuses to accept the connection? Is there a website moderator that can help or advice me what to do because i've even stop checking the site a for a few days and resetting my modem but it didn't help.
This is fundamentally what the internet is all about.
How do we connect to each other at all? We rely on a system of computers, called web servers, or rather internet service providers, in order to do so.
What you are describing is a classic problem in networking. We start by using tools such as traceroute/ping to diagnose the connection.
Generally the route, your attempted connection takes is out of your own hands, and the series of routers and internet service providers make decisions, about how to handle your request or how to reach your destination.
You might try altering your dns server, and possibly pay attention to the countries the web servers you would like to use reside in.
It's quite weird. I tried to ping trisquel.info from the terminal without a VPN and it is literally giving zero packages. With VPN it works and gives packages. It's weird, i am not geoblocked or anything, using another connection like my mobile hotspot; i can connect to it pretty fast. As far as i could remember when i tried Trisquel for a few days, Trisquel apt repo wasn't locked too, i seem to be locked out of only https://trisquel.info/.
Can anyone help or advice me what to do? The issue is still going on. I want to have a moderator of this site be aware of the issue, i don't want my connection to be permanently banned and being mislabeled as a spammer.
Maybe the blockage is at the DNS level. If you directly go to 94.23.83.146 with your Web browser, does it work? https://www.fdn.fr/actions/dns/ provides addresses to DNS servers that do not censor.
Hello sorry for the late response i thought there was no answer, Is that the IP address to trisquel.info? Just to be sure. I'm pretty sure that won't work also if it's anything related to trisquel's servers actually since i can't connect to the site in any way through my own connection.
I'm back with some updates,
I tried pinging the website again, still it's not working. I connected to the IP address Magic Banana mentioned through my browser with the VPN on first, it said that the connection was insecure and wasn't HTTPS (I use Librewolf as if now with strict protection so it was expected actually) then i proceeded and it said the IP address had certificates only for a few trisquel named domains, that was expected too i guess. Anyways what's interesting is when i turned off the VPN i couldn't even get to the screen where Librewolf told me that the connection was insecure which that kind of tells me that i receive exactly 0 packets through my connection, no matter if i connect through the IP address or domains.
Also considering that i can connect to trisquel.info with no problem through other internet connections, i pretty much think there is a block against my connection in particular.
It looks so. That is weird. Pinging the IP address is, as far as I know, the most basic you can get in testing a connection to a computer:
$ ping 94.23.83.146
PING 94.23.83.146 (94.23.83.146) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 94.23.83.146: icmp_seq=1 ttl=55 time=15.7 ms
^C
--- 94.23.83.146 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 1 received, 0% packet loss, time 0ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 15.657/15.657/15.657/0.000 ms
What is the output on your system?
This is what i get without VPN
$ ping 94.23.83.146
PING 94.23.83.146 (94.23.83.146) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- 94.23.83.146 ping statistics ---
53 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 53226ms
This is what i get with VPN
$ ping 94.23.83.146
PING 94.23.83.146 (94.23.83.146) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 94.23.83.146: icmp_seq=1 ttl=40 time=548 ms
64 bytes from 94.23.83.146: icmp_seq=2 ttl=40 time=549 ms
64 bytes from 94.23.83.146: icmp_seq=3 ttl=40 time=548 ms
64 bytes from 94.23.83.146: icmp_seq=4 ttl=40 time=548 ms
^C
--- 94.23.83.146 ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 4 received, 20% packet loss, time 4001ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 548.401/548.470/548.582/0.074 ms
Yeah, it's pretty annoying i guess my connection is actually banned. Perhaps a typo on the moderator side? I would like a site moderator see this. I don't know how sites are handled exactly but i think my connection is actually banned.
try going to a search engine first, then I bet you can do it, if you provide tons of detailed information, we are gnulinux folk, we solve problems for fun, we will figure out exactly what is wrong
